WHAT IS A CYLINDER?
A cylinder is a surface that is circular in one direction and flat in the orthogonal direction. A cylindrical optic has one or more cylindrical surfaces. Cylindrical optics are used in medical instruments, graphic arts, laser printers, and semiconductor processing equipment.
MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY
Optimax specializes in the rapid manufacture of prototype optical components. We utilize deterministic CNC machine tools for predictable removal rates and adherence to tight tolerances. To control wedge, we use precision tools that maintain the optic axis. Optimax grinds and polishes most optical materials such as glass, fused silica, and crystals for UV to IR applications.

TESTING CYLINDERS
Optimax uses several interferometric techniques including plano reference flats, spherical transmission lenses, and diffractive optical elements to verify the plano axis and power axis of the optic.
IN-HOUSE COATING CAPABILITIES
Optimax can provide optics complete with BBAR, V-coat, and mirror coatings. We have four electron-beam coaters supported by a Perkin-Elmer Lambda 900 Spectrophotometer. For more details please see our Coatings data sheet.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
Optimax inspects 100% of all optics and provides test data with prototype orders. We utilize state-of-the-art metrology and provide on-time delivery guarantees to ensure your satisfaction!

MANUFACTURING TOLERANCES

The general tolerance specifications above provide a guideline regarding manufacturing capabilities for optics ranging in size from 10-100mm.
The manufacturing limits are not absolute; tighter tolerances may be possible. Part specific tolerances may vary depending on component size, shape, and/or material.
  • Cylinders are available in the following shapes:
    bi-convex, bi-concave, plano-convex, plano-concave,
    and meniscus.
  • Cemented assemblies such as doublets and triplets
    are available.
  • Most common optical glasses: Fused Silica,
    BK7 and CaF2.
FAST DELIVERY
Optimax specializes in manufacturing a wide variety of optical components. In all cases, on-time delivery is crucial. That's why we offer a money back guarantee for expedited deliveries.
