Bob Wiederhold has an extensive background in optics than spans over 35 years. It began with an apprentice program at Eastman Kodak in Rochester, NY. Adding to his employment history are engineering and management positions at Tropel, Hughes, II-VI, and Melles Griot. Bob currently holds the valuable position of Operations Manager at Optimax. He offers expert advice and assistance with technical questions relating to materials, fabrication processes, tolerances and coatings. If needed, he’ll offer his assistance in deriving a design that is as manufacturable and economical as possible.

With his broad expertise in the fabrication of optics, and his understanding of Optimax’ capabilities, Bob is able to offer support from the design phase to the manufacturing of prototypes to production volumes. Bob has also contributed some of his manufacturing expertise to a chapter from Optical System Design by Robert E. Fischer and Biljana Tadic-Galeb, published by SPIE Press and McGraw-Hill. This book is a useful desk reference for everyone involved with optical systems.

Bob is an avid sportsman, enjoying golf, bowling and baseball to name a few. He also has a great appreciation for all kinds of music and cooking. Bob also enjoys visiting zoos all over the United States whenever he travels. And as most engineers, he never throws anything away!
